MY REVIEW:

Fabulous!

I love this family devotional book that can easily be made to work for a wide range of ages. The first reason being that it ties the Old Testament to the gospel! Too many family/kid devotionals just give stories rather then truly help kids connect with the Word of God. In this book, which gives you five, ten-minute devotions per week, there is at least one day when your reading a New Testament passage that connects to the Old Testament story line of the week.

The next reason I like this family devotional is that it's easy. And very simple, too. There are some suggest object lessons, but they are simple and certainly not mandatory for the kids to get the week's lesson. If you don't do it everything will still make sense.

And the third reason I like this book is because it's comprehensive. It incorporates reading Scripture, discussion and interaction, and prayer all together in an easy to follow format that really only takes ten minutes - if that.

In the words of Emily: "This book is fun!" And our family loves it!

Dusty Mole Private Eye by Barbara Davoll

MY REVIEW:

This is a kids book that approaches the topic of drugs in a very appropriate way while entertaining and teaching through a delightful tale. It should be needless to say, but I will make sure I am clear that it teaches against drugs. It is the first book in a series about brother and sister moles and a host of othor furry characters. While this is a small chapter book meant for 3rd or 4th grade readers to read alone, it also served well for me to read it aloud to my 4, 6, & 8 year old. They enjoyed the story and it was an easy way to introduce a hard topic. I would recommend this book to any of my friends who are reading to kids.

It's a Tween Adventure in 10 easy and fun chapters!

I love the fact that Elizabeth George has taken such wonderful spiritual truth and put into a format for younger girl's to enjoy just like their mom's have enjoyed in A Woman After God's Own Heart.

This book takes God's Word and applies it to the lives of 8 through 12 year-olds. (Although my 7-year-old enjoyed it, too.) It's part story, part devotional, part workbook, part fun and games! I found this book to be relevant, catchy, fun, and full of Biblical truth. It's great for an older girl to do alone, a younger girl to do with Mom, or for any girl's club or Sunday school class to use together. It is easy-to-use and the layout is appealing and interactive.

This makes a great gift for any young girl in your life whether it be on a special holiday or for a simple act of encouragement.

A good cup of tea, the Bible, and my daughters! What a precious way to enjoy all three by having a Mom and Me Tea Party Bible Study!

This book is a very unique and helpful book for Mom's with daughters ages 6 to 12. It clearly lays out an interactive Bible study and tea party from the first detail to the last. I love all the little helps and tidbits through out the book. One of my favorite parts was the emphasis about memorizing scripture together.

I would highly recommend this book to any Mom of young daughters and hope that you too enjoy the creative fun that it can start!

I liked how all the material - games, crafts, lesson, etc - is in one neat little book. And there is so much material you may not actually get to use it all! These audio books will provide you and your daughters (or sons!) hours of entertainment!

I love these 3 stories - Little Women, The Secret Garden, & Anne of Green Gables - and the way that they are brought to life while staying true to the books. The drama is high quality with various voices and real-life background noise that makes you feel like you are really there. These CDs are a great way to introduce your children to classic books at an early age or enjoy them as family entertainment.

I highly recommend them to anyone with girls ages 5 and up.

MY REVIEW:

This brightly illustrated kid's book is a re-make of the classic booklet My Heart - Christ's Home and is just as wonderful.

I immediately was drawn to this book due it's bold colors and soft, yet realistic, pictures. The storyline catches your attention from the beginning and walks children through several days in the normal life of an elementary age child.

The story it's self is a picture of what it's like when Jesus lives in your heart. It illustrates how Jesus loves us, is there for us, and forgives our sin when we confess it to Him. My oldest really enjoyed the story, but my younger two - 5 & 3 - had a harder time making the connection with the allegory.

I highly recommend this book for older children - let's say 6-years-old and up - for it's great content and ability to start a conversation about Jesus living within your heart. As you read about Peter and see how Jesus is with him at home, at school, at play, at night...your children will grasp how Jesus is with them every moment, too.

Piggy Party is yet another book in The Cul-De-Sac Kids series by Beverly Lewis. It's the 19th one to be exact!

I enjoyed this book about Groundhog Day and secrets and how it was easy for kids 5 to 10 years of age to relate to. There is humor, lovable characters, and biblical truth all in one easy-to-read book for kids. My kids - 3, 5, & 7 - enjoy having me read them aloud, but I think most 2nd to 3rd grade students could read them alone, too.

BOOK OVERVIEW:

Carly Hunter is chosen to take the class guinea pig home for the weekend, just in time for Groundhog Day. Tired of winter, she decides to test Piggy's skill for weather-telling. Can Piggy guess the beginning of spring? Will he see his shadow? When the Cul-De-Sac kids hear of Carly's experiment, they join in--and bring their pets. Can trouble be far away?

C. Archer has done a wonderful job of adapting the book Christy by Catherine Marshall into something easy to read for younger children. This audio version by Oasis Audio is read by the talented Jaimee Draper and will captivate the imagination of children 6 and up. Draper reads with drama and flair that add life to the characters and depth to the story.

This set of audio stories is a great way to introduce children to classic fiction. I would suggest that parents listen to them before allowing their children to since there may be parts or entire stories that are too scary for your child depending on their personality.

I enjoyed listening to these myself as they simplify and then dramatize to a greater depth the original story. They do sometimes add some variations that you will not find in Catherine's original book.

MY REVIEW:

This is the 17th book in the Cul-De-Sac Kids series by Beverly Lewis about a group of kids who have there own little club. They are great to read to your kids or to have younger kids (8 to 9 year old's) read them alone. I appreciate how they are biblically based and teach a lesson while they entertain. They are on a level that are extremely easy for kids to relate to as well.

The Creepy Sleep-Over is one in this series that I didn't finish. It was too scary to read to my 7, 5, & 3 year old. It kept talking about things being "creepy", "spooky", and "haunted". While the story does end well with a lesson about fear, it's still a bit too much for younger kids since it gets there imagination going in directions it doesn't need to.

Between God & Me by Vicki Courtney {GIVEAWAY!}

MY REVIEW:

This is a very colorful and eye-catching book for older girls and young teens. This journey through Proverbs is interactive and on a level that and 8 to 12 year old can most likely grasp quickly.

I like the casual layout that can be read in big or small portions and has the feel of a magazine. The quizzes and interactive cause girls to think about what they just read and learned. And of course the design is great and will make any girl want to sit down and read!

However, I have a few cautions. There were a few places where Vicki talked about a passage and I did not entirely agree with her explanation on that verse. The second caution I have with this book is that in my opinion the content is older than what the targeted audience is. I would not be letting my 8 year old daughter read this, but I would let my 12 or 13 year old read it. At the same time, I'm not sure your 13 & 14 year old would really like it because it's design (pictures, etc...) are definitely geared for younger girls.

This is a great concept and I like the book overall, but it is one that needs to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis for each girl looking to buy and read this book.

Are you traveling this summer with young children?

The Kidz Rock series might be an excellent resource for you to use to both entertain and teach your children while on the move!

This audio book consists of one 2-hour CD that is basically an overview of the book Genesis. It's a combination of passages being read by a male narrator and questions and application be talked about by a female narrator. It's upbeat and easy to understand for young children while still being enjoyable for teens and adults.

Kidz Rock: Digging Into The Beginnings is a great way to spend time on the road learning and growing. Be sure to check out Oasis Audio for more in this series!

MY REVIEW:

Heaven: For Kids is a book - and audio book - that should be on the book shelf of every family!

Randy Alcorn explains the deep and delicate topic of Heaven in simple and easy-to-understand terms for children. I really liked how he tied in portions of The Chronicles Of Narnia as examples and how a child's voice asked the questions which were then followed by Alcorn's answers. Not only is this book easy to listen to, but enjoyable to listen to even as an adult. It's the perfect book to listen to - or read! - together as a family and will be sure to get discussion going.

Sometimes books that are read by the author are not well done, but Randy Alcorn did a wonderful job on the narration of this audio version. The 3 CDs are a total of 3 hours long and would make for a great book to listen to on a road trip. While classified as Juvenile/Kids Non-fiction I think it is appropriate for children as young as the age of 5 and still great material for older children, teens, and parents.

Even if you don't have kids, you will enjoy this audio book!

MY REVIEW:

If you are headed out on a road trip with your older children or younger teenagers then you won't want to forget to pack this audio book!

Red Rock Mysteries had me on the edge of my seat and looking over my shoulder as I listened to it. Jenkins and Fabry have written an action packed mystery that is full of intrigue, fun, and great lessons. I enjoyed both the plots and characters alike. This set is two books in one and both stories are long enough to make a good mystery, but short enough to finish on a road trip.

This audio book is listed for children, but it could be scary for kids under 10 since some of the scenes are a little intense. (Car chase, intruder in the cabin...etc...) However, for a family with older children (or while younger ones are distracted) this makes a great family listen. It's a great way to create family memories while listening to good, clean, and wholesome entertainment.

MY REVIEW:

This is the story of the great soccer player, Kaka. Any kid - probably 10 & up - who likes soccer will enjoy reading about this great player who also is a great testimony.

It's a great book, but I think it's hard to follow if you are not familiar with soccer. That said, the book is easy reading and has color pictures that help bring life to this amazing story.
