I was looking for some simple, yet well written books for young kids about how things grow. This fits the bill perfectly!

While it's a cute story about a little boy who grows his own garden it's also about his not so helpful sister and her like of worms! But all the while you read you will be learning about gardening and how things grow and what they need to survive. You might even be inspired enough to go out and dig your garden patch!
