God’s High Calling For Women by John MacArthur

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
This short, 87 page book is an easy-to-read unpacking and explanation of 1 Timothy 2:9-15. It is like a mini commentary in the way that it digs into the passage, yet still flows like an easy reading book. In 4 short chapters John MacArthur explains the Biblical role of women as we find in 1 Timothy.
I personally appreciated the simplicity of this book - it's a "get in and get out" kind of read. In two hours I was able to read the entire book and take notes while really being impacted by it's message. While there are no lists of things to do or steps to take for change, learning the depth of what this passage means is enough to cultivate a desire for growth and/or change if you truly want to apply Scripture to your life. At the end of each chapter there is a short "Review" section that asks questions on what you read and helps you retain more and also would make a great discussion guide for a book club or Bible study.
I highly recommend this book to any woman or teen girl and think that it is a great individual read or perfect for discipleship or Bible study settings. It is a fabulous de-funking of false beliefs on women being second class in the Bible and a wonderful re-building of the high call God has placed on a woman's life.

Intimate Issues by Lorraine Pintus and Linda Dillow

Intimate Issues: Twenty-One Questions Christian Women Ask About Sex by Linda Dillow
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
There are some things that are just plain tricky to talk about. The topic of sex is probably on the top of that list. However, Lorraine and Linda have creatively, sensitively, and beautifully written a book that addresses the issue of sexual intimacy in marriage in a way that is respectful and honest. I appreciate their hard work to compile a comprehensive book about sex that is biblical, appropriate, and God-glorifying.
I believe that this book can and will minister to the heart of any woman no matter what her background and past experiences are as long as she desires to grow in her understanding of God's gift of sex. If you truly long to grow and change, you will enjoy and be encouraged by this study of intimacy. But if you are looking for a way to back-up your personal opinions you will find yourself chafing against the content of this book.
The authors start off by building a foundational understanding of what sex is and what God thinks about it as found in Scripture. From there the book moves through three phases - general understanding and core beliefs, dealing with personal issues and problems, and finally practical application and help for growing more Christ-like in your marriage. They deal with heavy topics such as pornography and the affect of abortion, to recapturing passion, and what's not okay in the marriage bed. Their sensitive and friend-to-friend approach will calm you, encourage you, and help you walk away with at least one area to work on your own marriage even if you have read every other marriage/sex book out there.
Intimate Issues includes a 12 week Bible study that can be used for personal growth or in a small group setting. I highly recommend this book to any woman who is married or counseling married women. For those who desire to become more like Christ in every area of their life this is a "must read".

Because He Loves Me by Elyse Fitzpatrick
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
If anyone - anyone! - would ask me what the number one book is that I would recommend, this book would be my answer. There are not enough words to describe this book!
Elyse is a great communicator, but beyond that is what she shares. In this book she takes you back to the basics that we so easily and quickly gloss over, and in some cases, we never pay attention to in the first place. In twelve chapters you are either are reminded or discover for the first time how the gospel applies to your daily life not just to a one-time decision. Reading this book is like putting together a puzzle and while you may first be confused, by the time you reach the end you will be very encouraged and on some things be quite convicted.
I personally love this book because for it was the first book I had read that really explained how what I knew should actually change my moment by moment life. It is deep enough to make you re-read some portions as you allow the meaning to really sink in, but easy enough for any person to read who is willing to give it their attention. For me, this has been the one book that has helped my dig into the Bible with excitement and passion as I understand more and more how it really applies to my life on a daily basis.
While the cover of this fabulous book showcases some pretty flowers and a butterfly, it's intended audience is for anyone, including men. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and quickly encourage you to put it at the top of your list to read. If you are a guy, then cut up a brown paper bag to make a book cover...but read it! It will change your thinking!
BOOK OVERVIEW:
God’s love has the power to change lives. Christians, then, should exhibit the greatest transformation of all because, rightly understood and cherished, God’s love makes them increasingly more like the One who has lavished his love on them.
So why do we so often struggle to exhibit God’s love? Biblical counselor Elyse M. Fitzpatrick asks one simple question: “In your pursuit of godliness, have you left Jesus behind?” We need to be rescued from our “identity amnesia” and pointed to our true identity as God’s beloved children—adopted by the Father, united with the Son, and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Fitzpatrick shows how a genuine transformation of identity leads to a transformation of our daily lives. Those who struggle with either legalism or lawlessness will find encouragement to return to God’s love, the source of authentic and lasting change. Study questions and invitations to further discovery conclude each chapter. Now available in paperback.

Am I Really a Christian? by Mike McKinley

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
Convicting. Encouraging. Challenging.
I always approach books on this topic with a bit of anxiety - wondering if I will walk away with more questions than when I begun. However, this book ranks first in the several I have read on this topic because it not only answered all my questions, but did so with great clarity. McKinley does not beat around the bush and present pages of lengthy explanation, rather he takes you back to Scripture for the answers. This book is a 140 page handbook for those who are willing to ask themselves the hard question of: "Am I really a Christian?".
Despite the sober subject and deep content, Mike helps ease the tension with his sprinkling of humor throughout the book. At first this may seem out of place, but as you read you feel as if you are having a personal conversation with a trusted mentor. He also provides great word pictures that take some difficult concepts and make them so much easier to understand. The book is also hands-on and interactive due to the "How To Respond" section at the end of each chapter. It is a good blend of book and Bible study combined into one cover and is suitable for individual or group use as well as appropriate for both teens and adults.
I was convicted and encouraged by this book. It helped me see some weak areas of my life and direct me to passages in the Bible that helped me determine my answer to the question: Am I Really a Christian? Whether you can answer that question without thinking about it or not, I highly recommend this book. Anyone who reads it will walk away benefiting from it...it's just that they may not benefit from it as they first expected. It's short, it's easy to read, founded on the Bible, and Christ centered. It is a great stand-alone read or a fabulous follow-up read to Because He Loves my, or Living the Cross Centered Life, or books of like kind.
Am I Really a Christian? is more than what meets the eye at first glance. This is a "really should read" book that packs quite a punch.
BOOK OVERVIEW:
Wheaton IL¬—Some stats indicate that nearly 80% of Americans identify themselves as Christians. Mike McKinley has noticed a concerning trend: There are far too many people who think that they are Christians, but aren’t actually in Christ. He likens it to people who claim to be “huge Yankees fans” but don’t watch games, don’t know the lineup, or the stats, and only ride the team’s glory around playoff time for the exciting World Series victory.
In Am I Really a Christian?, McKinley argues that there is much at stake in the decision to follow Christ, and it is crucial to know where you stand and what it means for your life.
McKinley writes with a genuine love and concern for those in the church. He asks tough questions in order to plead with readers who may not be running the race marked out in God’s Word to change course. Emphasizing the importance that Jesus and Paul placed on this issue, McKinley guides readers through Scripture to show what the Bible says about genuine faith.

Soul Food by John Beukema
Soul Food: God's Nourishment for the Real You by John BeukemaMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
Seven chapters about what feeds our soul written in clear, simple terms that are easy-to-read, but offer fulfilling food for thought. This book is another in the accumulating pile that point us all back to the cross, the grace of God, and the love of our Savior. It reminds me of books like The Cross Centered Life and Because He Loves Me, yet is easier to digest and less time consuming to read. It's a fabulous book to read in learning about what living for Christ truly looks like in today's culture and in learning more about the grace of God.
I appreciated not just the content of this book, but also the manner in which the author writes with openness and honesty as well as a sprinkling of humor. While it is an easy-to-apply read, the study questions at the end of each chapter make you probe deeper into your life and help the book's message stay with you longer. It's perfect for individual study or study within a small group.
It's is another book that brings you back to the basic and simple message of truth found in the gospel and how it truly does nourish our souls. It easily qualifies as a "must-read" for any child of God and is a great companion to biblical counselors to use with counselees.
The only downside to this book as that for the time being it is only available on Amazon as a Kindle book. However, if you are reading this review you have access to internet and can download the free Kindle app for your computer and read it on your desktop or laptop, or use the Kindle apps for your phone!

Worldliness by C.J. Mahaney

Worldliness: Resisting the Seduction of a Fallen World by C.J. Mahaney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
Worldliness is not just another book about the does and dont's of the Christian life. Rather this book addresses the heart behind the things we do and don't do as children of God. It goes beyond how we should dress and what movies we should not watch to dig in to why we dress the way we do and why we shouldn't watch a certain movie.
I enjoyed this book in the audio format for it's great quality. It was smooth and clear and the narration was enjoyable to listen to. Using the audio format to read this book is a fabulous choice and the only downside I found was with the discussion questions - it would have been easier if I could read them in print versus just hearing them.
Mahaney and the other men do a great job of keeping each chapter short and to the point while sharing a deep and balanced view of the topic at hand. I walked away feeling so convicted on all issues, especially ones I would have said I had "mastered". However, with this heart probing approach you are sure to walk away challenged and once again amazed by God's grace. This book takes the daily stuff right back to the cross.
BOOK OVERVIEW:
This resource uncovers the presence of worldliness and helps believers learn to relate to the world while resisting its influence in their lives.
People today are saturated in technology and prosperity. They are bombarded with endless luxuries: clothes to wear, cars to buy, vacations to take, entertainment to enjoy. Yet this world, which offers so many pleasures, is actively opposed to God and the truth of His Word. How, then, is the believer to relate to the world in which he or she lives?
Worldliness: Resisting the Seduction of a Fallen World uncovers the presence of worldliness-the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes, and the boasting of what he has or does. Worldliness then reveals how Christians are to engage a fallen world and boldly preach the gospel, yet not be conformed and ultimately seduced by the system of this world.
As readers learn to identify the presence of worldliness in the areas of media, modesty, music, and material possessions, they can begin to resist its influence in their lives and instead pursue eternal godliness.

The Man Who Makes A Difference by Jim George

The Man Who Makes A Difference: 10 Keys to a Life of Impact by Jim George
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
Jim & Elizabeth George have been used mightily by the Lord to encourage men and women to pursue depth in their relationship with Him and this book is yet another challenge for all men.
I really liked how Jim gives 10 practical keys for becoming a man who impacts the world for the cause of Christ based on the Bible and the life of Paul. Each key is presented in two chapters; the first being an overview of sorts while the second is how it applies to your life. The reading is probing and convicting all the while being easy to read and comprehend. Jim's writing is personable and humble. I am touched by the spirit in which he writes
While I say I liked everything about this book, I appreciate it for how it can apply to any man no matter what stage of life he is in or what his status is - married, single, etc. It seems to me it's a great companion for Elizabeth's book for women, "A Woman's High Calling".
BOOK OVERVIEW:
The Bible is filled with amazing people, and Paul stands out prominently among them. What made him so effective, so influential? In this book, author Jim George explores how Paul took God’s priorities for life and made them his own. The result? He had a significant impact on everyone around him. From Paul we can learn how to…
- let God’s power work in and through us
- acquire discernment for making right decisions and choices
- pursue holiness that allows God to work through us unhindered
- stay faithful to God’s calling all the way to the end
Because it is God who enables us, these qualities are accessible to every believer. Readers will experience true fulfillment as they take steps toward making a difference in the workplace, at home, at church, and in their community.

Living The Cross Centered Life by C.J. Mahaney

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
Living the Cross Centered Life is a book that has found a permanent home on my bookshelf. It's short, it's sweet, and it's simply simple. I greatly appreciate how C.J. Mahaney takes us back to the basics of the Christian life - the gospel - to which all the Bible points to.
I enjoyed this book that made me stop and fully look at God's love for me through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I was convicted of my check-list spiritual habits that take away from keeping the gospel the main thing of my relationship with Christ. This is a book that I will re-read over and over again as I "preach to myself" rather than "listen to myself". C.J. took hard issues, like legalism, and made it so easy to understand and deal with these things Biblically in my life.
While Mahaney takes a graphic look at the price that Christ paid on our behalf, I highly recommend this book to any and all teens and adults. I firmly believe you will be encouraged, challenged, and refreshed in your relationship with Christ and what it means on a moment by moment basis.
BOOK OVERVIEW:
What Really Matters
Have the extremities taken over and left the core of your faith forgotten? Do you get confused by what you feel versus what is real? Let dynamic pastor C. J. Mahaney strip away the nonessentials and bring you back to the simplest, most fundamental reason for your faith: Jesus Christ. This book is packed with powerful truth that will grip your heart, clear your mind, and invigorate your soul. Chapters include "Breaking the Rules of Legalism," "The Cross Centered Day," and "Assurance and Joy." Get ready to behold a breathtaking view of what God intends to accomplish in and through you every day. You’ll discover how embracing this cross centered life is both our highest privilege and greatest responsibility.
His Gift, Your Hope
Do you desire more passion for Jesus Christ? Return to the very essence of your faith—the cross of Christ. Here, the deepest truths of Calvary will stir your passion for Him into an unquenchable fire.
"Never lay it aside. Never move on," says C. J. Mahaney, who shows you how to center every day around the life-giving reality of the gospel and how to escape the pitfalls of legalism, condemnation, and feelings-driven faith.

A Woman’s High Calling by Elizabeth George

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
Have you ever sat down and read Titus 2:3-5 and then wondered what exactly does it all mean and how does it apply to your life?
Elizabeth George digs into that passage, and many more, in this book and not only explains the meaning but also how to apply it to your life in simple steps. A Woman's High Calling is part Bible study, part cozy chat with a dear friend, part how-to guide which brings to life the high calling of Titus 2. I love the easy flow of the book that is clear, focused, and above all, Biblical. The study guide in the back of the book helps you work through more Scripture passages to better understand and apply what you have learned.
This is the updated edition and I like how it has condensed the original two-part book and study guide to one book that flows better as well as being simpler to use. However, the one negative that I found was that it seemed to cut out some of the deeper digging passages found in the original study guide. That being said, it still presents a sound Biblical message in a format that is great for individual reading or a group study.
A Woman's High Calling is suitable for new believers and mature believers both young and old. It is a great overview of Biblical womanhood that will encourage and challenge single, married, or widowed women. I also think it would make a great study for a Mother/Daughter Bible study.
BOOK OVERVIEW:
Now updated with an exciting, practical study guide and a new cover—one of bestselling author Elizabeth George’s popular titles, with over 200,000 copies sold.
“Every woman would love to replace a life of survival with a life of meaningful accomplishment,” says Elizabeth. In A Woman’s High Calling, she helps readers to eliminate the clutter and chaos of everyday life and focus on the few things God considers truly essential. And they’re spelled out in Titus 2:3-5, where God shines the spotlight on…
-wisdom
-purity
-wholesome speech
-personal discipline
-love of husband
-goodness of heart
-love of children
-Christlike conduct
-ministry to other women
-love of home
There’s no higher calling for women than making God’s priorities their own. Readers will be eager to simplify their lives, adopt God’s essentials, and pass them on by mentoring other women. With the now-included study guide, they’ll realize immediate results.

The Faith Dare by Debbie Alsdorf
The Faith Dare is a challenge to live your life to the fullest within God's design for you. This is more than a motivating book, it's a 30-day Bible study, too.
Beginning with a short introduction and explanation on what it means to live life with faith, you embark on a 30-day journey of growing in your relationship with Jesus Christ and challenging yourself to take the next step. This month long study is broken into 3 sections: Live Up, Live In, and Live Out.
I enjoyed Debbie's style and presentation of the material. It's simple and user-friendly for both small group or individual use. The daily studies pack a powerful message to encourage and convict, but are still easy to do no-matter what your schedule is. The dares are not scary or overwhelming as the name makes it sound, but are rather simple steps for putting into action what you learned. Don't get me wrong, some of the dares may stretch you depending on your personality and testimony, but it's not a huge mountain to climb each day of the study.
There were parts of this book where I didn't always see eye-to-eye with the author, but overall it is a good study to work through personally or with a group of friends.
BOOK OVERVIEW:
Debbie Alsdorf wants women to experience the radically transforming difference that 30 days can make in their lives. It’s what she calls the Faith Dare, in which she challenges women to develop the habit of focusing on God and living out their faith in every situation for 30 days.
Alsdorf, a popular author, speaker and ministry leader, equips women to undertake this 30-day challenge in her new book, The Faith Dare. To cultivate a lifestyle of daily, passionate faith, she helps readers learn, day by day, to develop habits that will help them connect intimately to God.
Every day, readers will be challenged to go deeper. Examples of the daily dares include:
o Dare to live in the miracle of who you are.
o Dare to believe in God’s power in all circumstances.
o Dare to surrender to the process of change.
o Dare to speak praise, sing praise, and live with confidence in God.
Readers will also learn practical ways of applying God’s Word to their own lives, whether it’s in their personal relationship with God, learning to surrender to self, or living out God’s love to others.
With a personalized study guide, including daily readings, affirmations and challenges, Alsdorf’s 30-day challenge helps readers learn to live out their faith like never before and discover the incredible difference 30 days can make.

Reflecting Him by Carla McDougal
Reflecting Him: Living for Jesus and Loving It by Carla Mcdougal
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
This creative Bible study workbook, written by Carla McDougal, will walk you through 10 weeks of learning about how life is not about you, but about Him. The Creator, our Savior - God. While the focus is on "Living for Jesus and loving it", each week has a different theme. This creates variety and brings new excitement to each week, but can also be slightly disjointed depending on your learning style and preferences.
The overall presentation, approach, and principles found in this book are good. I appreciate the interaction the Carla creates in this workbook. She brings great creativity and fresh perspective for studying the Bible. I like the fact that you do dig into scripture and Carla even has you doing some simple research to enhance your learning. But I personally thought that it leaned toward a shallow feel on some of the lessons.
There is a lot that you can glean from this study. It is broken into 5 easy to use and manageable sections for each week.
BOOK OVERVIEW:
Reflecting Him: Living for Jesus and Loving It is a ten-week women’s Bible study. Like Jesus’ parables (which teach important lessons by creating visual pictures for the reader), Reflecting Him uses familiar objects and situations (such as pottery, the human sensory system, and the sun-earth connection) and draws comparisons that help women become aware of Jesus working in various areas of their daily lives. The study is a unique and convenient lay-flat format, so you can write without that annoying bump (you know the one we're talking about.)
Each week is divided into five days (lessons), supporting the central theme for the week. Read the first two chapters (or weeks) online.
The study also has an online component through a Reflecting Him Bible Study Group on Facebook. Individuals working through the study on their own can still get the benefits of a group discussion while working at their own pace. More than 200 people are in the group already and the discussions are really taking off.
This fall a leaders guide, videos, and music will be released to accompany the study.
AUTHOR BIO:
Carla McDougal is the founder of Reflective Life Ministries and Share Fair, an annual conference for connecting, equipping, and encouraging women in ministry. She speaks at women’s events, retreats, and conferences in the U.S. and internationally. Carla married her high school sweetheart, Fred, and they have four children ages 16 to 23 and live in Magnolia, Texas. Reflecting Him: Living for Jesus and Loving It (WinePress Publishing, 2010) is Carla’s first book, although she’s been involved in leading and teaching Bible studies for more than 20 years. John: The Wiersbe Bible Study Series by Warren Wiersbe
The Wiersbe Bible Study Series by Warren Wiersbe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
In a unique blend of Scripture, excerpts of his own commentaries, and probing questions, Wiersbe digs into the Bible book of John in a thought provoking depth you will not soon forget.
Twelve lessons walk you through the book of John in great depth, yet in an a surprisingly simple fashion. Starting with a brief overview, you step into the lesson through the Going Deeper section that alternates questions based on the passage you read in the opening with portions of commentary that will jump start your meditation on the passage. The Looking Inward section guides you to personal application and is followed by the Going Forward section that walks you to putting that application into fleshed out action.
This Bible study takes longer than the average study guide - probably 30 to 60 minutes per lesson when done as an individual. However, this comprehensive study is worth every minute you will spend. I really liked the combination of both challenging depth and simple explanation woven together to make learning intense and enjoyable.
BOOK OVERVIEW:
Developing an intimate relationship with Christ is a life-long process, and the study of His Word is one of the primary avenues through which we learn and draw closer to Him. Dr. Warren Wiersbe’s ability to explore and explain the Bible has been a foundational resource for many during this life-long pursuit, and now his well-loved “Be” commentaries are available in a series of eight-week Bible studies. These small-group studies will enable readers to reach deeply into the riches of God’s Word and gain a clearer understanding of who Christ is and how He taught His followers during His ministry here on earth. Each eight-week study includes an introduction to the particular book of the Bible, tips for small group study, self-introspective questions, and practical applications. Throughout the study, portions of Dr. Wiersbe’s “Be” commentaries are included to provide greater insight and to encourage those participating in the study to continue to deepen their study of God’s Word. Students of God’s Word may then decide to explore Dr. Wiersbe’s commentaries more completely as they move through individual books of the Bible.

Faith, Hope, & Luck by Andy Stanley
Faith Hope And Luck Dvd by Andy Stanley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
It's that time of year again!
The time when we run around attending parties and stuffing ourselves with great food while giving away gifts to our graduates.
Today I am featuring another great gift idea for any high school or college graduate - Faith, Hope, & Luck by Andy Stanley. This 100 minute DVD is broken into 5 segments for study as an individual or as a group. It's accompanying participants' guide is also easy to use in either setting.
The message of this study series is about how often we base our faith on what God is or is not "doing" in our life and in the lives of those around us. Stanley opens the Word of God to explain that our faith does not have to sway with the day but can be steadfast.
Overall, this DVD and participants guide is well put together and of great quality. It's enjoyable to watch and Andy Stanley is easy to listen to and learn from. There are few things that Andy says that I do not completely agree with (hence the 3 star rating) but not to the point that I would say not to use this. This cutting edge and extremely relevant study and presentation is a great investment into the spiritual life of any graduate.

Five Things God Uses to Grow Your Faith {Giveaway!}
Five Things God Uses to Grow Your Faith Participant's Guide by Andy Stanley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
While cash and gift cards are important to the Graduate gearing up for college, investing in their spiritual health is also an important gift and here is something that will do just that.
In Andy Stanley's clear and concise way he opens up the Bible to talk about five things God uses to grow your faith. This 6 session DVD includes these lessons:
- Big Faith
- Practical Teaching
- Providential Relationships
- Private Disciplines
- Personal Ministry
- Pivotal Circumstances
The DVD is high quality and enjoyable to watch along with being a spiritual challenge and encouragement. The participant's guide is also easy to use and fun for both groups or individuals. The flexibility of this set is part of what makes it so appealing along with it's great message.
I have rated this DVD & study guide with a 3 only because I am a Pastor's wife and due to some comments Stanley makes about denominations I would not be comfortable to show it in our church setting. However, on an individual basis I thought it was overall an encouraging study.

When Life Is Hard by James MacDonald

When Life is Hard by James MacDonald
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
No matter if your life is hard or easy or somewhere in between right now, this book is for YOU. As the back cover says: "Find Hope. Right Here. Right now."
I picked up this book to read for review knowing that it would be good, but completely unaware of just how good it would be. James unpacks 4 scripture passages and what they each mean to us when we face various trials - big or small. Not only does this book open up new thoughts and understanding on timeless passages, but it also gives practical ways of applying what you are learning and ideas for processing and dealing with the trials you are or will face.
When Life Is Hard is real and despite the hard subject, this book is refreshing, uplifting, and incredibly challenging in an invigorating way. It is deep stuff explained in simple terms. It is biblical truth in a format that is easy to follow and read. You will be encouraged by this book no matter what you reading level or skills are. James MacDonald ministers to you from personal experience and a relationship with Jesus Christ. This messages hits home no matter where home may be. It is a must-read and must-own for any Christian, but especially for anyone in full-time ministry. This book is one of the Best Of The Best!

The Practice of Godliness by Jerry Bridges
The Practice of Godliness by Jerry Bridges
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
The Practice of Godliness is a wonderful book for any believer to read; and re-read. However, when used hand-in-hand with the Discussion Guide, it makes this book even better. If that is possible!
A lot of books these days come with discussion guides built in or on the side, but this duo takes a different twist on the use of such a guide. This is designed to do the discussion guide first and then read the book. While this seems backward at first, it actually aids in the learning. You study the scriptures first, then read the author's teaching, then follow up with questions to discuss, or simply think about if you are doing the study alone. This approach grounds the study more in God's Word than any other I have read.
The study as a whole - with or without the use of the Discussion Guide - is wonderful. It addresses deep theology and biblical truth in a very down-to-earth manner that is easy to understand while challenge our spiritual growth. The Practice of Godliness also takes it from mere thought to application as you study 12 character traits of godliness through out this book.
This is a a great study for Sr. High teens to adults. It is easy to use as an individual and set up to make a great group study as well.
BOOK OVERVIEW:
Scripture tells us that God has given us "everything we need for life and godliness." But what makes a Christian godly? In this book, Navigator author Jerry Bridges examines what it means to grow in Christian character. Learn more about the character of God as you grow a deeper relationship with Him. Establish the foundation upon which godly character is built and continue by developing maturity and pursuing holiness.

Loving God with All Your Mind by Elizabeth George
Loving God with All Your Mind by Elizabeth George
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
MY REVIEW:
Fear, worry, anxiety, and depression are just a few of the emotions that are covered in this book. If you struggle with negative emotions in an shape or size that this is a must-read for you.
I really enjoy Elizabeth's tender, yet honest, approach to dealing with emotions and how to combat them by loving God with our minds and the practical application of doing so. She writes as if she were your friend and she writes from personal experience which makes this book all the more meaningful.
The book and study guide go hand-in-hand to make this a comprehensive study of how to use our minds for the glory of God.
