Dave the Donkey, An Easter Story by Andrew McDonough

MY REVIEW:

Normally I don't like Bible accounts that are told in a cartoon style. However, Dave the Donkey is different. While it has a silliness about it with some of the lighthearted pictures, it also packs the simple truth of the Easter story from the perspective of a young donkey and his grandfather donkey. My children quickly picked up on the real life Bible account that this book was retelling and enjoyed both the somber and joyful moments this book dealt with. As long as this is not the only book you read to your kids about the Easter account - which should be a no-brainer! - this is a great resource to read/own for a unique look at God's gift to us.   (This review copy was provided courtesy of Zondervan. )

Feed Me Books Friday {Sometimes I Like To Curl Up In A Ball}

This book is adorable!

You can read my full review here, but in the meantime let me encourage you to grab this book from the library if you have young children ages 2 to 6.  It’s a simple story about this little animal – I’m not really sure what he is! – and the things he likes to do.  The story makes for fun reading and easy interacting.  It would be a wonderful way to get your kids into action as they act out what this little, and very cute, character is doing.  While it’s a book geared for younger children, when you have several children the older ones will have fun getting in on the action.  They will also enjoy the very fun pictures and enjoy being silly together.

Feed Me Books Friday

It’s Feed My Books Friday once again and this week I want to draw your attention to two recent reviews I did for some kids books.

First I’m going to highlight a new and unique devotional for kids 6-years-old and older.  It’s called I Love God’s Green Earth and is a fun devotional and resource for teaching your children about how to respect and care for God’s creation with a Biblical perspective.  You can read my full review here.

The second book I want to talk about today is for younger children – ages 2 to 7 – and it just so happens {smirk} that I’m also hosting a giveaway for this book right now!  So if you click here to read the full review you can also comment on that post to enter the drawing to win – which ends tomorrow sometime (whatever time I get online to draw a winner).

This book is – This Little Prayer Of Mine – is a sweet book about prayer and is from the perspective of a child praying.  I personally think that a child will learn a lot about prayer just by reading about what another child prayed about; everything from fear, to obedience, to thankfulness.

Feed Me Books Friday – Love Your Heart

This Friday I would like to recommend “Love Your Heart” by Tim McGraw.  It’s a charming book for girls ages 4 to 8 with really sweet illustrations.  This is the second book by Tim McGraw in this “series” and I like this one better than the first one.  To read my full review of this book, read this post.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – For Children

 

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This, the child's version of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, is an excellent way to introduce your children to the classic books by C.S. Lewis. It covers the basic points of the original book in a much shorter version but with the same great lessons. It is in storybook format with beautiful, life-like illustrations.

I really liked this book, and surprisingly, so did my 6yo and 4yo daughters. I thought they would be afraid of the pictures of the White Witch, but they were not and they enjoyed the story.

I do recommend discernment in that it might be appropriate for some 4yo and not for others. Also, I skipped some of the story because I thought it would be too scary or too hard for them to grasp. So while I would highly recommend this book to 6-year-olds and up, this is a book that the parent should read before reading to their child.

I give this book a 4 only because it may not be good for every child. However, the content is, of course, excellent!

Feed Me Books Friday {Dr. Seuss’s Birthday}

This is my favorite book by Dr. Seuss! 

When I worked at a Daycare for two years I read this book over and over again to all the 2 and 3-year-olds.  I love the rhythm to the rhymes and the fun and playful storyline.  Now I enjoy reading it to my three kiddos.

Feed Me Books Friday - {Dr. Seuss’s Sleep Book}

 

This has got to be one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books!

Although, ya know…I think I say that about almost every one.  Oh!  They are all so much fun to read aloud to my kids!

The reason I like this one is because it talks about sleep and going to bedtime in a fun way.  It turns the bedtime poochy lips into giggling little grins.

Feed Me Books Friday {The Flea’s Sneeze}

The Flea’s Sneeze has got to be one of my favorite books to read to my kids.  Why?

Let me tell you why…

• First, it’s simple and fairly short. 
• It is also very funny to listen to and very fun to read.
• The pictures are adorable! *sigh*

Feed Me Books Friday {1/29/10}

I am so excited about this new blog fest created and hosted by Janna over at The Adventure Of Motherhood.  It is a simple way of promoting wholesome books to read to our children, and as you all know…I am ALL about that!

Here is my pick for this week:

Can Brown Eyes Be Made Blue?

This book is a biography for young kids about Amy Carmichael.  It’s very short (22 pages short) and talks mostly about her childhood years.  It is a perfect way to introduce your little ones to the heroes of the faith.  The illustrations are very nice and will attract your children while you read aloud.  You can read my review of this book here.
